Welcome to CBRC.
OUR STORY
Coogee Board Riders Club has a long and inconsistent history, much like the waves that arrive on the shore at the beach. Also like the surf in the great bay of Coogee, it has many iterations, breaks and local secrets.
Originally founded by Henry Parsons in 1963, the early days of the club saw Coogee locals search far and wide for surf up and down the coast, until about 1976 when the club suffered its first bombie hold down. Donny Bosco took off again on a steep shorey a couple of years later in 1978. He paddled out as president until 1993, taking on the “Southy” and eventually the “Island”. Donnie charged for 15 years but no one seemed to want to paddle back out, so the club was washed in over Wileys. That is until…Covid!
A new generation of merry men started paddling vintage craft to exercise their right….to exercise. Unofficially this was the rebirth of what would become.
We move now to present day. After much discussion amongst the next generation Coogee crew, it was decided to reinvigorate CBRC once again. CBRC now has an extremely hard working & committed committee who are focussed on the surfing community of Coogee. Our club is based upon our love of the sea & surf, mateship and the stoke of surfing together. We are still “living the dream” of our founding forebears.
Coogee has many born and bred talented surfers who were forced to compete with surrounding board rider clubs, or through the Surf Lifesaving movement. Several of our younger members have won multiple State and Australian surfing titles through Coogee and Era Surf Clubs. These young members are also “charging” Coogee Southy, Outer Southy & Bombie, following in the footsteps of veteran Coogee surfers like Jamie Reid, Tony Seddon, Matt Howard, Lachy Lemarseny and the legendary wave ski gang who rode these waves through the 1960’s to 2000’s. CBRC is now a great outlet for surfers to showcase their talents on a bigger stage.
MEMBERSHIPS
CBRC are attracting many surfing and social members, with approximately 100 signed up already. Our mission is to nurture and develop our young and female surfers in a safe and fun environment. CBRC is also a very family orientated club and has a strong Masters membership who are mentoring our younger surfers.
COMPETITION
All members will be encouraged to compete as much as possible throughout the season to improve their skills. Social members will be encouraged to help out wherever & whenever possible, and to spectate at our monthly competitions. CBRC are hosting monthly competitions between May and November (see 2024 calendar) and also host an event at Sydney UrbNsurf Wave Park in August. There will be a big emphasis on surfing trips away, both up and down the NSW coast.
SPONSORS
CBRC have attracted many local businesses as generous sponsors of our club. We are very grateful for their ongoing support.
